I'm a Gamer Chick, too!

I've always loved fantasy books. As a girl I read Elfquest. My friends and I even created our own Elfquest characters and wrote stories. I just realized, I guess in our own way we were role playing. I recently found my "character sheet." We had never been exposed to D&D (at least that I know of), but we had names, physical descriptions, interests, secret names, what we were good at, etc. вы фанат аниме фигурок? вот тут есть все - интернет магазин аниме

The girl that had been organizing us all moved and our little adventures came to an end. But, I never stopped reading fantasy stories. I met my husband and he suggested reading David Edding's The Diamond Throne. Can you say hooked immediately? He also introduced me to the computer game Darklands. He occasionally talked with my little brother about D&D, but I tended to tune it out as it was something my little brother was interested in, so it must be a "boys" thing. автокран в краснодаре

While my husband wasn't actively playing D&D (with sheets, characters, dice, etc.), he's always bought/collected D&D computer games which I've played with him over the years off and on. Then a friend of mine mentioned that her family plays in a D&D RPG and if we were interested we could join them. Hubby was looking for something to become more social with, so I suggested it to him, he met with the DM of the game, asked lots of questions (most of which went over my head) and a few weeks later, we joined their gaming group by hosting the next gaming session at our house. It's now three years later, we're still adventuring in the same game (home brew) and we're still hosting it monthly at our house. Over the course of time, we've added new players, including my daughter (FairyPrilla). purchase property in Dubai

We actually have a good ratio of male to female players, so I never really thought much about the differences. I think we currently have 10 players and two DMs running the games(one specializes in underground and wilderness portions of the story and the other specializes in the city portions of the game). Of those 12 people, 5 are female. Smiling

In the beginning, it started out as a thing I did to make my husband happy. Now, I have my own list of D&D books to buy and my own mini's wish list and my own bag of several sets of polyhedrals. I'm the one that asked if the V.I.G. package for GenCon this year could be our anniversary present.

When he went to GenCon last year, he went without me. I was especially mad because he went while I was on bedrest for pre-term labor for our 4th child. In the end, I decided it was better to find out more about it, so I surfed around on the internet. I was curious about the lack of female gaming perspective and was estatic when I found Ladies of Hack. Reading through those forums, they had links to other websites (including this one, though it was still in development) and my obsession with finding and talking to other female gamers really took off. I recently joined Gamer Wenches on the GenCon forums and now have TONS of things to look forward to for this year's events.

So, I'm one of those that might have gotten dragged to GenCon last year, unwillingly. I might have attended a few SPA events, but then I probably would have (as I am now) quickly gotten hooked on Gamer Chicks and Gamer Wenches!

OMG I read EQ too!! I have

OMG I read EQ too!! I have so much Elfquest stuff it's not even funny. Definitely had the RPG by Chaosium too. When I was in college I ran and Elfquest Holt for some kids in Jr. High and High school. I couldn't help but wonder who ran yours for you. Smiling

Ladies of Hack rule! I met a bunch of them at Gencon last year. I'm in the process of writing a story about them so we can help promote more Female Gamer sites. Gamer Wenches is another one. There's one more I can think of off hand on Livejournal called Chicks With Dice. I'm hoping to talk to and interview each one of the founders of this site and see what they have to say Eye-wink

btw Boo on your hubby for Game Widowing you at the PENDING BIRTH OF YOUR CHILD! He definitely owes you a trip to Gencon and at least one night to yourself sans kids Smiling
